Whenever I go on a business trip, I like to spend my evenings walking the local downtown area, taking in the sights and sounds of a foreign land. A chilly January evening didn't stop me from taking my traditional stroll down Lafayette, Indiana's main street. As the bitter cold intensified, I wandered into the next door I could find. Before my eyes sprawled a stage strewn with instruments and a sign that read, "Open Microphone." After serving me a cup of hot cocoa, the proprietor of the establishment encouraged me to take the stage. Not a word later I was ripping off my mittens, hoping my digits had thawed enough to tickle the ivories. After sharing my war stories, I made my way through the applause to settle my tab, but a man stopped me. He said, "Son, I just can't let you go by without shaking your hand. You've really got something." I thanked him and he asked me if I'd ever sung into a tin can before. I said I had, and in the midst of our busy schedules we carved out a two hour period of time to cut a quick demo, so here it is, a quick, rough recording of Counterparts. Enjoy.
